According to the American Dental Association (www.ada.org) and American Academy of Sports Dentistry

(http://academyforsportsdentistry.org/) every athlete of every age should wear a custom-made mouth guard, fitted by a dental professional.

As an Athlete of any age you need to be concerned with any contact that may occur. Contact can occur with your teammate, the other team players and with any piece of equipment that you may be pushed or fall into.

Falling backwards on any surface, hitting the back of your head and causing your lower jaw to bump the base of your skull can cause injury. A custom mouth guard will not prevent injuries but it can aid in the prevention of head and oral facial injuries by adding that bumper space.

It is also very important to have regular dental check ups, cleanings and have any dental problem addressed prior to playing any sport.
